The classic boat bag is correctly constructed using just two pieces of material. The body of a boat bag is constructed of rugged fabrics – one piece forming first on side, across the bottom, and then forming the other side. The second piece of material covers the bottom – actually forming a double bottom. This can be done in the same or a contrasting color for a more distinct look. The handle travels down the sides of the bag and lifts the weight from the bottom.
It is easy to tell a ‘real’ boat bag – just look inside, if the material on the sides and bottom is one piece – it will be evident. If there are three pieces of material – the sides stop at and are sewn to the bottom – the bag is NOT a traditional boat bag and cannot be expected to take the weight and wear associated with this style for centuries.
